China is reportedly working to cognitively fuse humans with machines as part of its ongoing efforts to compete in the artificial intelligence race.
Communist countries use brain computer interface (BCI) technology that allows communication between the brain and external devices to “reinforce human cognition and human teaming,” the Washington Times reported citing presentations from Georgetown experts to US officials.

These include invasive, minimal invasive and non-invasive BCIs, according to the Washington Times.

Invasive BCIS involves surgery to implant electrodes in the brain, while non-invasive BCIS uses sensors on the scalp to monitor brain activity. Meanwhile, minimal invasion BCIS includes implantable devices, but according to a report by the National Library of Medicine, it does not penetrate brain tissue.
Fox NewsAI Newsletter: Amazing Breakthrough for a Paralyzed Man Who Can't Speak
The US is primarily focused on building language models for developing AI technologies. However, China opposes traditional ideas about how to achieve artificial general information (AGI). It is a type of AI that has the ability to perform better than humans on cognitive tasks, according to William Hannas, a lead analyst at the Center for Security and Emerging Technology.

“There are all kinds of possibilities there, but if you want human equivalent AI, you're not going to get it just by increasing the parameters. [of models]”Hannas told the Washington Times.

Hannas, who previously worked for the CIA, has collected Chinese government documents containing information on the country's AI funding plans this year and last year. The plan includes several brain-inspired AI approaches, the Washington Times reported.
Additionally, the Washington Times said China's state media cited a statement that the future includes making it a physical part of humanity.

In 2018, two engineers working on a brain-inspired approach to AI were also recruited by Chinese officials, they told the Washington Times.

China's innovation artificial intelligence Michael Krazios, director of the White House Science and Technology Office, told Fox News Digital in April. However, he argued that the US is the world's dominant force in AI, and that the Trump administration's “promoting and protecting” strategy solidifies its position.
Georgetown's Security and Emerging Technology Center did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.
