As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly embedded in the workplace, OpenAI has introduced a structured 30-day AI learning plan aimed at helping Indian professionals build practical AI skills using ChatGPT. The framework is designed around users’ daily tasks rather than traditional AI curricula, allowing them to learn by solving real-world workplace problems.
The month-long roadmap is divided into six practical steps that guide users from understanding the basics of AI to applying the technology to their work and communicating the impact of their work.
Step 1: Start with your job, not the AI
OpenAI recommends starting by telling ChatGPT your role, your industry, the tasks that take up the most time each week, and how much time you can spend learning each day. ChatGPT uses this information to generate a 30-day learning plan customized to your individual work requirements, rather than offering a generic AI course.
Step 2: Learn the basics of AI in learning mode
The first week will focus on building foundational knowledge through ChatGPT’s learning mode. Rather than just explaining concepts, the tool asks questions throughout the learning process and actively engages users to understand topics like prompts, chatbots, AI agents, and workplace automation.
Step 3: Automate one repetitive task using Codex
In week two, users are encouraged to identify repetitive tasks at work, such as preparing reports, cleaning spreadsheets, summarizing meetings, and tracking follow-ups, and use Codex to automate some of the processes. According to OpenAI, Codex explains each step in plain language, making it easy to access even for users with no programming experience.
The company also noted that usage of Codex in India has increased 27 times since January this year, with more than a quarter of requests now focused on non-coding tasks such as document creation and spreadsheet automation.
Step 4: Turn your work into a visual case study
In week 3, users can use ChatGPT’s image generation feature to create a one-page infographic comparing manual workflows to automated versions. The company says its latest image generation model produces sharper text in visuals and supports multiple Indian languages, including Hindi and Bengali, making it easier to share results with colleagues and managers.
Step 5: Practice explaining your impact
Week 4 shifts the focus from building AI solutions to communicating their value. Through ChatGPT’s voice conversations, users can simulate a discussion with a manager, explain how automation has improved efficiency, and receive feedback on their responses before having a similar conversation at work.
Step 6: Create a one-page progress report
On the final day, ChatGPT summarizes your progress for the month, including skills learned, tasks automated, achievements achieved, and recommendations for the next stage of learning. OpenAI says the report can serve as a personal record, learning portfolio, or roadmap for continued AI skill development.
With its six-step framework, OpenAI aims to help professionals go beyond experimenting with AI tools and develop practical skills that can be applied to everyday work.
By the end of the 30-day plan, users are expected to have a deeper understanding of AI, complete at least one workplace automation project, create a visual overview of their work, and feel confident in using AI throughout their daily work.
