The recently introduced BTech honors course in Computer Science Engineering (Artificial Intelligence) has emerged as the most popular course at the Punjab Engineering College (PEC), launching for the 2023-2024 session. According to the first round of seat assignments by the Joint Seating Allocation Authority (JoSAA), the AI course had the lowest final ranking of 9,240 for students outside the Union area.
The school’s seat allocation is based on the ranking of the main entrance examination conducted by the National Examination Agency (NTA). The final rank indicates the cut-off rank of candidates who can apply for the course. For UT students, Computer Science Engineering courses are more favorable, with a final ranking of 15,366 for him, compared to his 17,499 for AI courses.
Bachelor’s courses in Computer Science and Engineering are the second most popular non-UT students, with a final ranking of 10,519.
“Artificial intelligence is the next big thing and it’s no surprise that students want to learn about it,” said PEC Director Bardev Setia. .”
Similarly, the Emerging Electronics (VLSI Design and Technology) course was the most popular, with a final ranking of 19,746 and the Classic Electrical Engineering final ranking of 24,581.
Setia added that the design course deals with semiconductors. “India does a lot of research in semiconductors but lacks manufacturing. This is starting to increase now and those who take this course will benefit from it,” he said.
At the time of the first round, metallurgy and materials engineering were the least popular courses, finishing 47,423 among students from other states and 74,056 in the home state.
Of the six rounds, the second round of seat allocation is scheduled for July 6, with a total of 850 seats in dispute.
