Canva, an online design platform used to create logos, presentations, infographics, and more, has announced a new suite of AI tools that can do everything from generating new images to automatically editing videos.
This toolset covers almost every part of Canva’s design suite. It starts with Magic Design, which automatically designs graphics based on uploaded images and a style of your choosing. Users can freely edit their designs after the fact and have them automatically translated using Canva’s new AI-powered translation feature, which supports over 100 languages.
Once you have your initial design, Canva has Magic Edit and Magic Eraser to help you refine it. Magic Eraser erases part of the image and says AI takes into account the rest of the image, but Magic Edit is interesting. According to Canva, you can add or replace anything in your image. Simply tell the AI what to add or replace and it will fill in the missing details.
Perhaps the most interesting feature is Beat Sync. Automatically edit video footage into songs and cycle through different video clips and images without manual editing. The video editor won’t lose his job, but he’s one of the most interesting applications of AI we’ve seen so far.
In addition to single graphics, Magic Design can also generate presentations. This is similar to the new AI-powered suite of tools in PowerPoint. Just like people are using his ChatGPT, MagicWrite can also be utilized to generate text for slides and graphics.
The company isn’t clear on whether the tool is built on in-house AI or leverages existing models like GPT-4 (the AI model behind tools like ChatGPT Plus). not to
AI isn’t the only thing Canva is adding to its design tools. The company also announced Brand Hub, which unifies templates, folders, guidelines, and approval workflows for brands. We’re also adding some “highly requested” features to the tool, including drawing tools, layers, gradients, image alt text, and 953 new fonts.
After the monumental rise of ChatGPT and the subsequent release of apps such as Bing Chat’s DALL-E 2 integration, it’s no surprise that Canva integrated a suite of AI tools. Adobe has been adding AI tools to its software his suite for years. Photoshop has supported AI content fills and background removal for nearly a year now, and Premiere Pro recently received Color Match, Morph His Cut, and Auto Reframing features (all powered by AI) earlier this year.
