Political commentator Candace Owens once again questioned how Turning Point USA handled the announcement of Erica’s leadership role following the death of founder Charlie Kirk. This time, the debate flared up after Daily Mail political reporter Charlie Spearing said he had personally seen a video of Aspen’s dispute in which Charlie Kirk allegedly named Erica as his successor. The latest exchange began after Candace Owens publicly raised questions about a video used during AmFest. She claimed that donors who attended the event believed the audio may have been created using artificial intelligence. Candace Owens also questioned why the public heard Charlie Kirk’s voice in the clip but did not see the full video footage during the presentation.Charlie Spearing directly responded to her concerns about X, writing: The video is so important that we asked @TPUSA to watch it. I approached them in good faith and they agreed. ”He went on to say, “This is real, and multiple people who were in Aspen that day remember that moment.”The Daily Mail reporter also explained that the video was not the only reason Turning Point USA’s board decided to appoint Erica. Charlie Spearing said several of Kirk’s donors and close friends told him they had serious concerns about Kirk’s safety and the organization’s future after Butler. He said Charlie Kirk reassured people that “even if the worst happens, Erica and the board will continue their mission.””
Candice Owens asks Charlie Spearing about Turning Point USA Aspen video and AI concerns
Candace Owens later disputed Charlie Spearing’s claims and asked why he wrote publicly that he had tried contacting her without success. He said he had been in contact with Mitchell earlier this month on a separate matter and never asked him about the donor who objected to the video. She also questioned why Turning Point USA decided to release only the audio rather than the full video footage. Candace Owens wrote, “With all due respect, is your skill set AI? Would you be the one to assess whether that video was real or created by a Hollywood AI company that Turning Point interviewed after Charlie’s death?”She further claimed that she personally has materials from Aspen that could help determine whether the video was altered using artificial intelligence technology. Candace Owens added that a meeting reported by Turning Point USA with a company specializing in post-mortem AI-generated video raised more questions for her.At this time, Turning Point USA has not publicly released the entire Aspen video at the center of the conflict. An independent forensic report has also not been shared publicly. The conversation continues online as supporters of both sides debate whether the video should be released in its entirety to resolve the growing dispute.
