March 11 – French media group Canal+ announced Wednesday it has entered into a multi-year partnership with Alphabet’s Google Cloud to deploy generative artificial intelligence across its production operations and streaming platforms.
With Netflix spending money on an AI-driven recommendation engine and Amazon deeply embedding machine learning into Prime Video, CANAL+ is betting that Google’s mighty muscle can punch above its weight as it races towards its goal of up to 100 million subscribers by 2030 after absorbing South Africa’s MultiChoice.
* Canal+ will provide production teams with Google’s video generation AI Veo 3 * This will allow creators to pre-visualize scenes before filming or recreate historical moments from a single archival photo * The tool will be available to production companies producing films supported by Canal+ * Partnership includes intellectual property protection and CANAL+ says its rights and asset ownership will be “heavily protected” within a secure technical environment provided by Google Cloud * Canal+ uses Google’s AI technology to index the entire content library and improve personalized recommendations in the Canal+ app * Rollout covers European and African markets where the app is available, with deployment expected to begin in June 2026
