Business process evolution driven by Workato's AI agents

AI For Business

The adoption of AI agents can change more than business process workflows. Agents have the ability to take on tasks in almost the same way humans pitch and help.

Markus Zirn, CSO at Workato, talks with TheCube about the business processes during the World of Workato event.

This wave of “new coworkers” entering the workforce can dramatically change their role. It can also change the culture surrounding it, according to Markus Zirn (pictured), Chief Strategy Officer at Workato Inc.

“In ten years, we might all see all these agents do what we were doing,” Zirn said. “There's a change [that] It's very dramatic. Until now, it's people, or the people they work with, think of technology as a machine. It's like a system application. With these AI agents, you basically have to consider them as coworkers. ”

Zirn spoke with Rob Strechay and Savannah Peterson of TheCube at the Wow: World of Workato event during an exclusive broadcast on TheCube, a live streaming studio for Silicon Angle Media. They discussed the impact of AI's Workato customers and the expansion of agents across the enterprise platform. (*Disclosure below.)

Business Process Platform Support

The impact of Agent AI has already been seen in the results generated by customer recruitment of Workato's tools, Zirn noted. This includes Workato One, an agent stack for bringing AI, enterprise systems, and human workflows into one cohesive architecture, and Genie, a no-code platform for building and managing AI agents.

“I lead the Field CTO organization and they work with the most interesting clients,” says Zirn. “These are actually CTO people, CIOs for big companies. All we see is a platform where Workato One can do everything its customers need.

Despite interest in AI agents between CIOs and CTOs, there is concern about return on investment. Earlier this week, MIT published a study reporting that only 5% of its AI pilot programs achieved rapid revenue acceleration.

“I haven't seen that in Workato,” Zirn said in a discussion with TheCube about the MIT report. “I think it's because we're connected to the system, so we're at the core. That's a different approach. 80% of these things are actually happening.”

Companies such as Workato, who are deeply involved in agent AI development, are fundamentally interested in expanding technology far into the company. Among Workato's announcements at this week's meeting are agent knowledge graphs that connect agents to the enterprise-wide data fabric, and support for model context protocols, allowing agents to be exposed as APIs or services to facilitate agent collaboration.

“We worked for 10 years to do this Workato orchestration platform. [customers] Zirn said: “It's a unified platform that can help you with everything you need. It's not just agents, it's more than anything.”
