Global fast food chain Burger King is deploying an AI chatbot named “Patty” that resides inside employees’ headsets to improve service and monitor friendliness.
The OpenAI-powered assistant is part of the BK Assistant platform and helps staff prepare meals, check inventory, and guide operations.
How do Burger King patties work?
Thibault Roux, Burger King’s chief digital officer, said: The Verge Patty is trained to detect polite phrases such as “please,” “thank you,” and “welcome to Burger King.” Managers can use AI to see how their locations are performing in terms of customer experience.
Lu emphasized that the system is designed as a coaching tool, with ongoing efforts to accurately capture the tone of employee interactions.
Patty also assists in practical ways, such as providing instructions on preparing meals and cleaning machines. The AI is integrated with Burger King’s cloud-based POS system and notifies managers when products are out of stock or equipment requires maintenance.
Within 15 minutes, menu boards and inventory information will be implemented across all digital platforms to ensure customers receive the most up-to-date information, Roux said.
Burger King’s AI assistant is designed to assist employees and interact with customers, but the company has not yet considered an AI-powered drive-thru, unlike its competitors McDonald’s, Wendy’s and Taco Bell.
