Bsc in AI: Students prefer 3-year BSc in AI, ML over Engineering for higher education | Lucknow News

Machine Learning

LUCKNOW: Pursuing engineering in computer science is not the only option if you want to learn artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) and deep learning. Several private and government universities in the country offer traditional three-year courses like BSc and BCA in AI and ML, making them the first choice of students in urban areas. Opting for BSc and BCA courses in AI is the new trend in students choosing higher education. Now that AI tools like ChatGPT-4o and Google Gemini have shown their ability to challenge jobs like never before, students are reserving seats to gain expertise in the subject. “I applied for BSc in Artificial Intelligence from a private university in Noida. I did not take JEE (Main) or JEE (Advanced) as I wanted to get my BSc in AI and then go for a postgraduate degree in higher education in the US. “MS in AI is one of the most demanding and challenging programs being offered by US universities these days,” said student Shashwat Bhardwaj. He said most of his friends are opting for BSc in AI instead of BTech as the BSc course is more economical, lasts for three years and after BSc they can directly get jobs in multinational companies looking for data scientists. Another student, Sambika Gautam, said, “I applied for BSc in AI instead of BTech in AI as I knew it would be difficult to get admission in BTech courses in AI offered by top engineering institutes. Due to the stiff competition, I felt it would be better to opt for BSc in AI in Chandigarh instead of pursuing BTech in a non-AI field.” Higher education is undergoing rapid transformation, with increasing emphasis on advanced technologies like artificial intelligence, robotics, machine learning and deep learning. “Interestingly, these fields, once associated mostly with specialised courses like BTech, are now becoming an integral part of traditional academic programmes like BSc, BSc (Hons) and AI specialised degrees,” says Anuj Kumar Sharma, professor of mechatronics at APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University and an AI expert.
