Brex launches AI-native accounting API to automate ERP integrations

AI News

Brex introduced an AI-native accounting application programming interface (API) aimed at automating accounting workflows and enabling real-time connectivity with enterprise resource planning (ERP) platforms and other financial software.

The company says the API is built to automate accounting workflows end-to-end and support continuous bi-directional data exchange between Brex and ERP, rather than relying on traditional one-way bank feeds.

This two-way connection is intended to allow finance teams to capture the information they need when performing transactions and send it to ERP in real time.

Brex noted that key accounting fields can also be moved back from ERP to its platform, so spending rules and business context are applied as transactions occur, with the goal of reducing manual effort and speeding up period-end processing.

The API includes real-time webhooks and additional endpoints that alert connected accounting systems as soon as new activity occurs. This eliminates the need for batch processing and manual updates.

The company added that the API can be used in conjunction with accounting AI capabilities and automation tools to support processes from transaction coding to export preparation and closing.

James Reggio, Chief Technology Officer at Brex, said: “In accounting, you can’t trade off accuracy for speed.

“Our AI-native accounting API brings intelligent automation and real-time, rich data to finance teams and their ERP partners, performing tasks like coding transactions and preparing for export for them, allowing them to close the books faster and with confidence.”

The accounting API will initially be available through integration with Rillet and Campfire. Brex calls these AI-native ERP platforms.

“Manual month-end closings have become a relic. At Lilette, we believe in zero-day closings,” said Nicholas Kopp, founder and CEO of Lilette.

“By combining Brex’s real-time data with Rillet’s automation engine, the ledger is always up-to-date, from prepayments to accruals to multi-entity consolidation. Finance teams are empowered to respond to audit-ready finances in real time.”
