New York City Center has released a video of Billy Porter performing La Cage aux Folles’ iconic Act I finale, “I Am What I Am.” Encore! Production runs now until June 28th.
The Porter production will be joined by stage and screen star Wayne Brady with an encore. Alums Alaman Diadiou (Jean-Michel), James Jackson Jr. (Jacob), Tony Award winners Tonya Pinkins (Jacqueline), Rachel Webb (Anne), Peter Francis James (Edouard), Michael McElroy (Francois), Sharon Washington (Marie), and Lance Cody Williams (Renault).

This is the final encore! The season will be directed by director Robert O’Hara and guest musical director Joseph Joubert, with choreography by Edgar Godineau, tap choreography by Dolmecia, and Harvey Fierstein (book) and Jerry Herman (music and lyrics) for the Tony Award-winning “La Cage aux Folles.”
This musical tells the story of long-time partners Albin and Georges. They are proprietors of a vibrant drag nightclub in Saint-Tropez, and their world changes when their son brings home his fiancée’s conservative parents. What ensues is a whirlwind of farce, hearts, and “a little more mascara.”
