The state government is building a powerful, high-capacity data centre that will enable 2,300 users to run artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) applications simultaneously, officials said on Friday.
The facility will enable the practical application of data science by providing infrastructure to support advanced data analytics, the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity on the sidelines of the Data Science 2024 conference, noted that “our state already has advanced infrastructure supporting over 5,000 users in real time.”
He said another data centre focused on AI and ML is being built to cater to 2,300 concurrent users. “We are building this new data centre with higher capacity to cater to capacity and growing demand. Once operational, the data load will be split between the two centres,” the official said.
While the government will be the primary beneficiary of the new facility, there are also plans to provide several start-ups with access to infrastructure for advanced data analytics, he said.
For data science to be effective, a robust infrastructure and necessary tools and processes are essential, which includes high-performance computing services, secure data centers and comprehensive data management systems, said an official from West Bengal Electronics Industry Development Corporation Ltd (Webel).
