image source, ×We reviewed a video circulating online showing a reported suicide bomb attack on a makeshift camp for the Nigerian military.
The attack has been linked to the Islamic State group, an extremist group based in Borno state in northern Nigeria. Video taken in a forested area shows troops, vehicles and tanks.
One of the soldiers shouts to the other, “Observe!” Another man, presumably the photographer, repeated the same command and later said, “I see some people.”
Moments later, there was an explosion in the distance, followed by an even larger explosion near the photographer who shouted “suicide bomber” at least six times.
This video is watermarked with important details such as date, time, and coordinates, meaning you can pinpoint a specific location on Google Earth.
We matched the trees in the video to satellite images. NASA’s satellite-based fire detection platform FIRMS captured several heat signatures in the area on the same day, providing further support.
The incident was confirmed by the Nigerian military, which is carrying out military operations against the insurgents., external He said a vehicle loaded with explosives had breached military positions.
