After yesterday’s high-impact match in the VCT Pacific League, which pushed a talented team to the limit, everyone went into Sunday hoping both series would be easy. But India’s Global Esports had another idea.
Global Esports have struggled so far in 2023, and their ragtag roster had a lot of people wondering how they were going to make it. The team is now on the brink of elimination from this stage of his VCT, and the remaining regular will need to win every match of his season to have a chance at the Masters Tokyo in June.
Today they faced one of their toughest opponents, South Korea’s Gen.G Esports. South Korea’s Gen.G Esports have established themselves as his second-best team in the Pacific League after DRX. To everyone’s surprise, Global defeated Gen.G today with him a quick 2-0.
Global roster potential has never been questioned. Each player has shown great skill, but there has been speculation as to how well they could play as a unit.
Two players known for having incredibly high skill ceilings today have finally put the pieces together. In what was likely the biggest upset of the VCT Pacific League to date, AYRIN and SkRossi finally showed their potential.
The team started at Pearl with a pistol round win from Global, but Gen.G quickly took the next two rounds to avoid starting on the completely wrong foot. Despite some blunders, the half mostly went in Gen.G’s favor, finishing 7-5 before switching sides.
With their attack, Global heated up.
Especially impressive was AYRIN, who played KAY/O for the first time. AYRIN was known for his performances with the XSET, a North American team that he was considered one of the best teams in the region late last year. With XSET failing to secure a spot in the franchise, their roster was scattered and AYRIN ended up in Seoul in the Pacific League.
He has transitioned into a global leadership role, but despite being known as a strong player, 2023 has so far failed to display his talents. North American fans know Aileen and know he’s a talented player, but certain mistakes have piled up and his team has sunk to the bottom of his VCT and his Pacific. increase.
AYRIN’s struggles aside, another key component of the global roster is missing. It’s SkRossi.
Known as a fiery jet specialist, Scrossi had several logistical issues that prevented him from playing with the team on the Seoul stage in the first few weeks of league play. Now that he’s back, his presence is certainly felt.
SkRossi won the map with a 23/16 KDA over Pearl with Global going 13-8.
Analysts predicted this match could be a Jett battle between SkRossi and Gen.G’s Meteor, but Meteor had some great moments, but today’s It was nowhere near SkRossi’s overall consistency. Overall, Gen.G looked incredibly flat today compared to his 2023 play so far.
Lotus also got off to an even start, but Aylin and Scrossi kept their all-cylinder engines at full rev.
He finishes the map with an average combat score of 331.
Once SkRossi and his team were on the move, Gen.G couldn’t stop them. AYRIN looked the most confident we’ve seen so far in his VCT this year.
After waiting for Global to find their form, the teams hugged each other on stage after a surprise upset win over Pearl 13-8 and the match 2-0.
Global will continue to work for a playoff chance and will face a similarly performing team, Rex Regum Qeon. They will go head to head on his May 7th at 4am (CT).
