Qualcomm has announced its most powerful mobile platform, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, at the ongoing Snapdragon Summit 2025 in Hawaii, USA. This is an annual upgrade from Qualcomm, comparable to Apple's A19 Pro chip and will be featured on the next-generation Android flagship phones. The new chips bring more performance, efficiency, improve AI capabilities on devices, and shape the future of smartphones.

The chip will soon be available on new smartphones, but Qualcomm introduced it to select media in the reference device briefing. It has a new chip score of over 4.2 million Antuchu than flagship chips from both Apple and MediaTek.

It was a Geekbench 6 and the PCMark score was also very impressive.

Speaking at the summit, Qualcomm president and CEO Cristiano Amon emphasized that the company wants to bring AI anywhere, including phones, PCs, smart devices and even cars. “Every year, we have to reform itself. All Snapdragon Summit work is a job to better tipping for announcers than last year. That's what we're doing this year. We bring AI everywhere and lead the next generation of innovation,” he said.

At the heart of the new platform is the third generation Qualcomm Oryon CPU. Qualcomm claims to be the fastest mobile CPU ever, with 20% better performance than its predecessor. Complementing that is a redesigned Qualcomm Adreno GPU that improves graphics performance by 23x and improves hexagon NPU with 37% faster AI processing. Together, these upgrades promise smoother multitasking, longer gaming sessions and highly efficient on-device intelligence.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 also enables what Qualcomm describes as a personalized agent AI assistant. These are AI models that continuously learn on-device, process real-time input, and actively propose actions without compromising user privacy.

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “We've seen a lot of people who have been working hard to get started,” said Chris Patrick, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Mobile Handsets.

For creators, the platform presents Advanced Professional Video (APV) Codec recordings on mobile. Combined with AI-powered camera capabilities, the flexibility of studio-grade video production and widespread post-production is now possible, further positioning smartphones as professional creative tools.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 will debut in flagship devices from major OEMs and smartphone brands in the coming days. Verified partners include Honor, Iqoo, Nubia, OnePlus, Oppo, Poco, Realme, Redmi, Redmagic, Rog, Samsung, Sony, Vivo, Xiaomi and ZTE.
