In a statement on the same day, M Kumar, Chief of Criminal Investigation, Bukit Aman, said four police reports had been filed.
He said the first case was reported by Sub-Rep. Wong on September 12, Bernama reported.
The sender had threatened to have a fake porn video with faces released on social media if they didn't make a payment within three days.
Senators Nelson W. Angang, Senator Krim Wong and Senator Taufik Johari, Seungai Petani, have since submitted police reports, all of which have shown they have received similar demand.
“The Royal Malaysian Police are taking these reports to the greatest extent,” said Kumar, cited by a local media outlet.
“We will take strict, comprehensive and uncompromising actions against the parties involved in the preparation, distribution or use of such material.”
As reported by the press Bernama, Kumar says all reports are being investigated under section 385 of the Criminal Criminal Code of the Communications and Multimedia Act of 1998 and section 385 of Section 233 of the Criminal Code.
If convicted in Section 385, the offender may face fines, whipping, or a combination of these punishments in prison for up to seven years. Meanwhile, Section 233 holds a maximum penalty of RM500,000 and a maximum of two years of prison, according to Murray Mail.
Kumar added that police are working with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to track senders of emails and other related information for further investigation.
The check revealed an email using roughly the same language, and is believed to have been sent from the same email address, with the same screenshots and was sent from the same email address, the Fami Communications Minister of the “Bakti Komuniti Madani” event said on Sunday it would promote community service in Penang.
He said the government was looking at these incidents seriously and directed the MCMC to work closely with the police to track down the person responsible for the email threats made via Gmail.
Fami said his ministry will seek Google's help in identifying who will be responsible for compiling and sending emails.
In a Facebook post, Fahmi also shared a screenshot of the email she received on September 12th.
