Guwahati: The Assam Pradesh Assembly Committee (APCC) on Thursday filed police complaints against the BJP's state chief and Cabinet Minister Pijush Hazarika, accusing them of using videos generated by AI to jointly spread misinformation.
The complaint has been filed at the prison police station by a delegation of the council leaders led by Bedabrata Bora, APCC Media Department, directed by the directions of Assam Congress Chief Gaurav Gogoi. The complaint mentions two AI-generated videos that were recently shared on social media through the official Facebook pages of BJP Assam and Pijush Hazarika.
According to Congress, the video misused images of opposition leaders of Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi and Gaurav Gogoi to portray content that attempts to disrupt community harmony ahead of the BTC election on September 22nd.
“During the election, the BJP routinely relies on such unethical tactics to spread community anxiety. This time they use AI to serve on the same agenda,” Bedabrata Bora told reporters outside the dispur police station.
“The videos generated in these AIs distributed from the BJP page attempt to incite obvious religious sentiments by using the faces of our national leaders to project manufactured joint messages,” Mullet added.
He further argued that this was part of a larger conspiracy by the BJP to polarize voters and divide voters along religious lines, particularly before critical elections.
“They politicize religion, create a rechargeable atmosphere and circulate false propaganda that can disrupt peace not only in Assam but across the country,” Mullah said. The Congress calls for strict legal action against those responsible, claiming that such actions are directly in violation of India's social harmony and election ethics.
