Ask Slashdot: Why should we fear artificial intelligence?

AI and ML Jobs

“I keep reading and hearing about calls for regulation on artificial intelligence,” writes the longtime Slashdot reader, Bartock, “and it’s infuriating.”

“I want more so-called artificial intelligence, not less, and I don’t want it to be regulated, filtered, or limited in any way.”

I love how deepfakes are now open to the public. After Hoffman and De Niro scared me in 1997, I stopped believing anything was real. ” wag the dog”.

I love automation and would love to automate it more. Please let the robots take my job. We want robots to wage war instead of our son.

Surveillance is already scary, but adding “artificial intelligence” doesn’t make it any less scary. We all need to deplete our systems of personal data anyway. All other arguments, such as the collapse of the economic system and discrimination, seemed to be based on stupid “artificial intelligence” coupled with what should not be…

Scar me or vote for your favorite sci-fi “artificial intelligence” scenario. I’m going to be bored, so I hope I can have a “good” matrix. Where I am rich and sexy.
The original post states that this question was raised to ChatGPT and Google, but “didn’t get a single convincing answer.”

Please share your own thoughts in the comments. Why should this Slashdot user be afraid of AI?

Note: They didn’t feel it conveyed the right tone, but they also sent the original post to Microsoft’s Bing AI, which delivered this rewrite.

What are the real dangers of artificial intelligence? I am not convinced by the popular arguments against it: regulation, deepfakes, automation, warfare, surveillance, economic disruption, discrimination. I think these are problems that can be exaggerated and solvable. I actually want more AI in my life, not less. Can you give me some compelling reasons why we should be afraid of artificial intelligence? Or what sci-fi scenarios do you find plausible or interesting? I would like a simulation like this.
