As AI chatbots become popular in China, so are businesses that insert ads into results

AI For Business

As chatbots like ChatGpt gain traction, generation engine optimization (GEO) is emerging as an increasingly important approach for brands seeking visibility into answers generated by artificial intelligence.

Unlike traditional search engine optimization (SEO), which aims to improve the ranking of results, Geo aims to ensure that content is cited, summarized or recommended by an AI model that generates “answers with word limits.”

Yuan, who has been working with SEO since 2014, ventured to GEO this year after Chinese AI startup Deepseek exploded into the scene and encouraged many local businesses to rethink their strategy.

Optimizing AI-generated content will improve the information provided on the company's website, which will increase exposure to platforms like news outlets, online portals and Wikipedia, Yuan said.

Ewan cited an example of the online education platform Nuoyun. This has received recommendations from Deepseek as one of China's best resources after the Big Fish team “refine” the content of their website, and has posted 40 articles on other websites.

However, that does not mean that new visibility is permanent, as it requires continuous attention to tweak content.
