Prime Minister Pashinyan welcomed the project as Armenia's “stargate” and demonstrates a bold change in the country's digital ambitions.
Armenia has announced plans to work with US technology leaders Nvidia, AI cloud company Firebird, and local Telecoms group teams to develop a $500 million AI supercomputing hub.
The initiative, presented at the Viva Technology Conference in Paris, represents the largest technology investment ever seen in the South Caucasus.
The facility is set to open in 2026, with thousands of Nvidia Blackwell GPUs offering scalable computing power of over 100 megawatts. Designed to advance AI research, training and entrepreneurship, the hub aims to position Armenia as a major player in global AI development.
Prime Minister Nicole Pashinyan described the project as “Armenian stargate,” highlighting the possibility of transforming the national technology sector.
Firebird CEO Razmig Hovaghimian said the hub will help develop local talent and attract international attention, but Noubar Afeyan's Afeyan Foundation will be boarding as a founding investor.
Instead of limiting its role to fundraising, the Armenian government will also provide land, tax credits and simplified regulations to support projects, strengthening its push towards a competitive digital economy.
