Apple Unveils New Autocorrect and Predictive Text Features for iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS Sonoma at WWDC 2023
At WWDC 2023, Apple previewed iOS 17, iPadOS 17 and macOS 14 Sonoma for iPhone, iPad and Mac respectively. These three software updates include many similar improvements and new features, including improved auto-correction capabilities and improved predictive text recommendations powered by on-device machine learning language models.
“Autocorrect receives a comprehensive update with Transformer Language Models, the most advanced on-device machine learning language model for word prediction, improving experience and accuracy every time users type,” said Apple. said.
The new AutoCorrect feature also comes with a revamped design to improve the user’s typing experience. Apple said new features with sentence-level autocorrection can correct more types of grammatical mistakes and provide predictive text recommendations inline as users type.
Apple said that adding whole words and completing sentences will be “as easy as tapping the space bar,” making it “faster to enter text.” The new software update also features a new speech recognition model for improved dictation accuracy.
All new features announced for iPadOS
New auto-corrections, inline predictive text, and improved dictation are coming to iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and macOS 14 Sonoma. In addition to these new keyboard features, these software updates also feature new Siri activation commands.
Instead of saying “Hey Siri,” you can now just say “Siri” to activate Apple’s voice assistant. Users can even give the voice assistant multiple commands in a row without having to reactivate the voice assistant for each command.
