(Reuters) – Apple Inc.'s next artificial intelligence features will arrive later than expected and will not be ready in time for the initial launch of its next iPhone and iPad software overhaul, Bloomberg News reported on Sunday.
The iPhone maker plans to start rolling out Apple Intelligence to customers as part of a software update scheduled for October, the report added, citing people familiar with the matter. The AI features will arrive a few weeks after the initial release of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, scheduled for September, Bloomberg reported.
Apple plans to make Apple Intelligence available to software developers for early testing for the first time via beta versions of iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 as soon as this week, the report adds.
Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment outside regular business hours.
In June, Apple rolled out a slew of new features and software enhancements to iPhones and other devices and highlighted its commitment to AI in an effort to boost sluggish sales.
Apple Intelligence, which uses AI to generate text, images and other content on command, will be available on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPads and Macs with the M1 chip or later. iPhone Mirroring in macOS Sequoia lets you view and control your phone's screen on your Mac computer.
The report comes after Apple delayed the launch of three new artificial intelligence features in late June because landmark European Union technology rules forced it to ensure competing products and services would work on its devices.
