Collaboration accelerates Apple's AI roadmap in response to growing competitive pressures in technology
Apple has a multi-year partnership with Google and has selected the Gemini AI model to power Siri and future Apple Intelligence features. The partnership accelerates Apple's AI roadmap amid competitive pressures in the technology sector. The announcement highlighted the deepening partnership between the two giants.
The deal positions Google's Gemini model and cloud infrastructure as the foundation for Apple's next generation base model. Apple evaluated multiple AI providers before choosing Google, citing Gemini's strong features that power advanced Siri features such as improved context handling and personalization.
Highlights include Gemini's integration into Siri, with an improved version expected to be released in late 2026. This update supports broader Apple Intelligence features across iPhone, leveraging more than 2 billion active devices. Additionally, Apple's private cloud computing ensures user data privacy by separating processing from Google's systems.
Financial terms have not been officially disclosed, but reports suggest Apple could pay around $1 billion a year, making it one of the largest AI licensing deals.

The move addresses delays in Apple's internal AI development, which was originally announced at the 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference. The enhancements to Siri aim to boost sales of the iPhone, which is facing a downturn, by providing a more sophisticated AI experience.
Apple maintains a privacy-first approach, running features on-device or in the secure cloud. This partnership complements the existing ChatGPT integration and positions Gemini as the core of deeper OS-level intelligence led by executives such as Craig Federighi and Mike Rockwell.
For Alphabet, the deal represents a major victory over rivals such as: OpenAI And humanity. Gemini is already powering Samsung's Galaxy AI, but the Siri integration could unlock Apple's large ecosystem and help fuel Alphabet stock's rise.
Rumors of the partnership surfaced in late 2025, when Bloomberg reported that Apple had committed $1 billion to Gemini's 1.2 trillion parameter model. Apple considered options from OpenAI and Anthropic, but prioritized Google's technology in its Siri overhaul.
