Apple has reportedly rejected Meta Platforms' proposal to integrate its Llama AI chatbot into iPhones, citing concerns about the social media giant's privacy practices, Bloomberg News reported on Monday, citing sources familiar with the matter.
“Talks about a potential partnership have not reached a formal stage, and Apple has not actively planned to integrate Llama into the iPhone because it believes Instagram's owner Meta's privacy practices are not rigorous enough,” the Bloomberg report said.
The reported talks between the two tech giants were brief, taking place in March, before Apple stepped up its AI strategy with partnerships with OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini.
“The preliminary talks come at a time when Apple has begun negotiating deals to use OpenAI's ChatGPT and Alphabet's Gemini in its products,” the report added.
The news comes shortly after Apple unveiled its own ambitious AI strategy at its annual developers conference in June, when the company said it would integrate OpenAI's ChatGPT into its devices and bring its own “Apple Intelligence” technology to a suite of apps, including Siri.
The Wall Street Journal first reported the talks between the two companies on Sunday.
