Apple clears key hurdle for iPhone AI launch in China

Yes, this is what Apple has been trying to do since they announced Apple Intelligence in 2024, and yes, you know, we don’t have the version that they announced back then. Right now, we’re expecting a lot of products to come out later this fall, but they’re basically non-existent in the Chinese market, where AI sells well.

Products sold by Huawei and Xiaomi have built-in AI capabilities. Therefore, it was very important for Apple to somehow enter this space. We’re not there yet, this is not widely available at all, but with the regulatory system, uh, we’ve taken a step forward.

They will have to work with Alibaba to make sure they are compliant with the Chinese government, but they will likely use Baidu’s technology. But, you know, the fact that they were able to start moving towards this is a good sign, especially for Apple. In particular, they saw this kind of spike in Chinese revenue from iPhone sales last quarter, and that gave them a really good boost.

So far, sales of the iPhone 17 series have been very strong. That means a foldable iPhone is expected to arrive sometime in September. We also expect an improved version of Apple Intelligence, as well as the iPhone 18 lineup.

Well, if they can get all of this set up and ready by the time they launch in China, that could be a big boost for them and their overall bottom line. But if not, at least this kind of functionality will come sooner or later.
