Apple has announced it will begin releasing software updates earlier to respond more quickly to cybersecurity threats accelerated by advances in artificial intelligence.
iPhone said the measure is aimed at reducing the time between identifying security vulnerabilities and providing fixes to users.
In response to AI-driven security concerns, Apple said it will push ahead with a series of software updates previously bundled with new versions of its iOS operating system, making them available sooner than in previous cycles.
This modern approach is part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen user privacy and device security in an evolving threat landscape.
the company said Reuters The company on Monday was adapting to the reality that given artificial intelligence’s ability to accelerate the development of malicious hacking tools, it needs to shorten the time between when an update is first published and when it gets into the hands of customers.
The shift marks a notable shift in Apple’s long-standing practice of packaging security fixes into broad software releases, and a recognition that AI is compressing the window attackers have to exploit known flaws.
Unless security experts discover hacking activity targeting previously unknown software flaws, Apple typically releases security updates as part of the transition from one version of iOS to the next. For example, from the currently available version 26.5 to the next planned update 26.6.
In the meantime, developers and other testers will try the next update to resolve the issue.
The company said instead, the latest round of security updates will be available to everyone ahead of the broader release of 26.6.
Although there is no evidence that the newly patched vulnerabilities have been exploited, the company said there is a need to reduce the time between security fixes being first announced and being deployed on customers’ phones.
