Medium has banned AI-generated content from its paid partner program and notified users that the new policy will go into effect on May 1, 2024.
Stories generated entirely using AI can be removed from paywalls and users may be kicked out of monetization programs.
“We are writing to notify you of policy updates that may affect your participation in the Medium Partner Program,” the blogging platform said in an email seen by BleepingComputer.
Medium is all about human storytelling and emphasizes that it doesn't want completely AI-generated stories on its platform. Medium understands that AI can make some sentences more clear or help people write in a second language, but they are no longer allowed to write content purely through AI. I made it clear that.

Medium's guidelines already included language stating that fully AI-generated stories would be restricted from distributing beyond the writer's personal network on Medium.
According to its guidelines, Medium allows for the responsible use of AI-assisted technology, but has strict requirements for transparency. Stories that use AI help must explicitly mention this within their first two paragraphs.
This rule also applies to AI-generated images, which must be properly labeled and sourced.
Medium users can still post AI-generated stories to their personal blogs, but they won't be widely shared across Medium's network.
With the ban on AI-generated content from its paid partner program, Medium has further cracked down on the distribution of this type of content.
