🤖 Anthropic announces Claude Fable 5, the first “Mythos class” AI model that lets you create playable video games from a single text prompt
-
😮 AI researcher Ethan Mollick demonstrated the capabilities of this model by creating three different functional games using Claude Code.

🎮 Beyond game creation, models can also actively play existing games, such as completing a run in Slay the Spire

🤔 Concerns about the impact of AI on creative industries persist, but this development shows the huge potential for interactive game design and rapid prototyping
It goes without saying that AI is advancing at a breakneck pace, and Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5 model feels like another giant leap forward.
We’ve gone from a model that stumbles over the number of “R’s” in strawberries to one that allows you to create a playable video game from a single prompt.
It pains me to say this as someone who has been staunchly against AI since its inception, but AI-generated games aren’t half bad either.
Claude Fable 5 is the first Mythos class model that allows you to create complex interactive experiences like video games with minimal input. You can also play games such as: Complete the Slay the Spire run More consistently.
As highlighted in tech crunchEthan Mollick, an AI researcher and academic at the University of Pennsylvania, has already created three games with Claude Fabre 5. Mollick writes: his substack Fable consistently “outperformed basically every other published model I’ve used by a significant margin.”
Molik used this model to create three video games via Claude Code’s “One Initial Prompt”. After trying each game, I was certainly impressed.
snake It follows the classic formula we all know and love, but with some clever twists. You must eat the prompts before they affect the game, and you must deal with changing visuals and gameplay mechanics as you progress.
strata Explore a network of underground tunnels from a first-person perspective and light your way. Granted, it’s no big deal, but keep in mind that this was created from a single prompt. That’s pretty surprising.
lastly, Duinoa title based on the Duino Elegy, a series of poems by poet Rainer Maria Rilke. It features some pretty impressive 2D animation as you walk around and discover new passages from Rilke’s works. Again, it’s limited, but the potential is clear.

Although AI has largely been demonized, particularly by gamers, we cannot ignore the impact it is already having on society and the creative industries. Indeed, there is something scary about having AI models do tasks that were once done by humans, especially from an ethical perspective. However, the ability to create fully interactive games from just text prompts opens up huge opportunities for game design.
Not only will it accelerate game development, which is becoming increasingly expensive and time-consuming, but it will also dramatically lower barriers for indie developers and creators.
Of course, Anthropic’s new Claude Fable 5 model has some drawbacks. Mass consumption of tokens will lead to rapid rate-limiting burnout, and while it is available now for current paid subscribers, they will only have access until June 22nd.
This deadline means a new, more expensive tier will emerge for those who want access to cutting-edge AI. There are growing concerns that this will create “AI inequality” that only benefits the best-funded teams and the wealthiest in society.
Still, try forgetting that when you play the AI-generated version of Snake.
