Thousands of Android and iPhone users can put their personal information at risk by installing the dangerous ChatGPT app.
Hundreds of “unofficial” AI apps have appeared on the Google Play Store and iPhone App Store, described by one privacy expert as “cheap fakes or outright scams.”
They are designed to look like ChatGPT, the popular AI chat technology that allows people to access information online via compelling, human-like messaging bots.

However, many of these apps are scams designed to trick smartphone users into surrendering personal data or installing malware on their systems.
Privacy researcher Alex Kleber explained that a number of apps that copied ChatGPT’s original logo and color scheme materialized on Google Play and iPhone app stores.
Mr Kleber said: “It is not uncommon to come across multiple apps with identical or similar names and logo copies of OpenAI icons and colors that claim to offer advanced AI-powered chatbots or language models.
“But most of these apps are nothing more than cheap knockoffs or outright scams that don’t deliver on their promises.”
App titles include compelling names such as “AI Chat Bot – Writing Assistant” and “Chatbot Ai Powered by GPT-4”.
If you want to try ChatGPT or GPT-4, there is an easy way to do it without using dangerous apps.
