New partnership gives organizations access to rich data insights needed to power AI apps that accelerate business outcomes

bozeman Mont. and Walldorf, Germany. — Snowflake (NYSE: SNOW), an AI Data Cloud company, and SAP SE (NYSE: SAP), a global leader in enterprise applications and business AI, today announced a new partnership to enable organizations to leverage Snowflake’s AI Data Cloud and SAP Business Data Cloud (SAP BDC) with semantically rich data.

Advances in AI agents, data, and platform capabilities give developers the tools to drive business transformation

This joint effort will make Snowflake’s data and AI platform available as an SAP solution extension for SAP BDC solution customers. A new service, SAP Snowflake Solution Extensions for SAP Business Data Cloud, brings together SAP’s deep expertise in mission-critical business processes and semantically rich data with Snowflake’s unified platform capabilities for building AI and machine learning solutions. SAP and Snowflake also enable zero-copy sharing between SAP BDC and Snowflake, helping customers gain richer insights, build enterprise-grade intelligent applications, and unleash AI-enabled innovation to drive business transformation.

“The tight integration between SAP and Snowflake makes it easy for enterprises to connect critical business data to the rich context of SAP by harnessing the power of seamless AI app and data agent development at scale on Snowflake,” added Christian Kleinerman, vice president of products at Snowflake. “Enterprises can now use Snowflake and SAP BDC to innovate faster and seamlessly share data across fully managed platforms with zero copy.”

SAP Snowflake introduces Snowflake into the SAP BDC open data ecosystem and business data fabric, extending SAP BDC with Snowflake’s AI, analytics, data engineering, marketplace, and collaboration capabilities, while providing customers with more openness and choice. Customers can extend the value of their data using SAP Snowflake and SAP BDC as cloud-scale compute and storage options. By leveraging bidirectional, zero-copy data access, data and AI teams can interact with semantically rich SAP data products in real-time within a unified governance framework. As a result, customers can harmonize SAP and non-SAP data and build agents and AI applications on SAP Snowflake powered by trusted SAP data products, while optimizing total cost of ownership across workloads.

“Introducing Snowflake to SAP Business Data Cloud gives our customers openness and choice,” said Irfan Khan, President and Chief Product Officer, SAP Data and Analytics, SAP SE. “We combine SAP’s decades of leadership in mission-critical business applications with Snowflake’s modern data platform to deliver an integrated, enterprise-ready SAP support experience that extends the value of business data across the entire ecosystem.”

With SAP Snowflake, customers can:

  • Build a trusted, AI-enabled data foundation that harmonizes SAP and non-SAP data. Unifying your data landscape with a unified business data fabric enables more seamless zero-copy sharing, enhanced modeling, and complete business-ready data views in real-time for all data engineering, analytics, AI and machine learning workflows across the enterprise.
  • Accelerate AI business value with semantically rich data. Simplify AI governance, root AI in your organization’s knowledge, and build customized agents to ensure more secure, context-rich, and intelligent applications across your enterprise.
  • Develop intelligent applications based on mission-critical business data. Build, deploy, and continuously optimize intelligent applications faster with a harmonized, democratized data foundation powered by semantically rich, trusted data products that accelerate the pace of innovation and production.

In addition to SAP Snowflake, this partnership also includes SAP Business Data Cloud Connect for Snowflake, a feature that enables bidirectional zero-copy data sharing with Snowflake. Enterprises already using Snowflake can leverage SAP BDC Connect to integrate existing instances of Snowflake with SAP Business Data Cloud for more seamless zero-copy access, giving Snowflake users real-time, non-redundant access to semantically rich SAP data products.

SAP and Snowflake support thousands of customers, including industry leaders like AstraZeneca, who are transforming the industry through this partnership.

“AstraZeneca is always pushing the boundaries of science and pioneering life-changing medicines,” said Russell Smith, vice president of ERP transformation technology at AstraZeneca. “Data and AI are central to achieving this goal, and our deep collaboration with SAP and Snowflake complements our ability to access, process, and analyze real-time data. This announcement accelerates our mission and recognizes that every minute counts in delivering breakthrough advances for patients.”
