Anand Mahindra on AI: …AI will bring much more value than we ever imagined

AI News

Anand Mahindra said artificial intelligence (AI) could be more valuable to humanity than he “imagined.” Citing a study showing that AI can detect breast cancer five years before it develops, he wrote, “If this is accurate, AI will be much more valuable than we ever imagined, and much sooner than we ever imagined.”

The Mahindra Group Chairman shared his views on microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter).

Recently, a research team at Duke University in the United States developed a new AI model that predicts the five-year risk of breast cancer from mammograms.

Traditional cancer diagnosis relies on imaging techniques such as biopsies, microscopic histology, MRI, CT, PET scans, etc. Human interpretation of these tests can be subjective. AI, on the other hand, can analyze medical images with incredible accuracy.

An IANS report quoted Vineet Nakra, radiation oncologist at Max Super Speciality Hospital, talking about how AI is helping in cancer diagnosis and treatment. He told the news agency that AI is helping pathologists diagnose cancer faster, paving the way for doctors to provide patient-centric and personalised cancer treatment.

How did users react to Anand Mahindra's post?
“That's the best use of technology anyway – helping humanity to do better and reduce risks,” one user wrote in response to Mahindra's X post. “AI in the medical field will have a huge impact and will definitely contribute a lot. Google DeepMind's AI system, AlphaFold3, can accurately predict the 3D structure of proteins, which could have applications in drug discovery and understanding diseases,” another user commented.

“Systems based on AI, machine learning and big data analytics will dramatically improve living standards for all segments of society,” a third replied.
