Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ:AMD) CEO Lisa Su At a recent event, the company highlighted its progress in chip designs towards its 30×25 goal, aiming to make computing nodes 30x more power efficient by 2025, and currently predicting that it will see a 100x improvement by 2026-2027.

Su highlighted AMD's foresight in addressing the issue of AI power consumption by focusing on improving data center power efficiency from 2021 onward. According to a report by Tom's Hardware, he noted that concerns about AI power consumption are growing due to the explosion of generative AI models such as ChatGPT.

AMD has set a 30×25 goal to improve data center efficiency, specifically targeting AI and HPC power consumption as a key challenge.

Su explained that advances in AI are driving the rapid expansion of data centers, putting strain on public power grids.

Xu noted that the computing requirements needed to train AI models are growing at an unprecedented rate, outpacing advances in computing and memory technology.

To address these challenges, AMD is employing a multi-pronged strategy that includes silicon advancements, AI-specific architectures, system-level tuning and hardware and software co-design initiatives.

Su highlighted the role of 3nm Gate All Around (GAA) transistors in improving power efficiency and performance, as well as advanced packaging techniques that maximize compute efficiency per watt.

Su also cited AMD's MI300X chip as an example of efficient design, emphasizing the importance of data locality in reducing power consumption.

In addition, Su highlighted the benefits of significantly improving power efficiency and performance through joint optimization of hardware and software.

According to a recent report: Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) is considering integrating AMD's MI300X AI chips into Azure.

Recent reports also point out that AMD is gaining market share in x86 processors in the client and server categories.

The analyst highlighted AMD as the company that stands to benefit most from AI. NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) has grown in the server CPU market and has been successful in gaining market share in the merchant accelerator sector.
