Alibaba International, China’s global e-commerce, retail, and technology company, has launched an AI solution for small and medium-sized businesses.
Accio Work is a “plug-and-play” enterprise AI agent that provides businesses with instant, no-code task forces.
According to Alibaba, Accio Work requires no setup. “This platform marks a major shift into the agent business, deploying specialized agents to run complex, long-term assignments from day one. [marking] “This is a new era in which AI moves beyond being a passive Q&A tool and becomes an active autonomous performer,” Alibaba said in a statement.
Alibaba introduced Accio as an AI-powered business-to-business procurement engine in November 2024, but the company says it has evolved into a “full-fledged” AI agent serving more than 10 million monthly active users worldwide. Accio Work will further evolve the platform toward “a full-fledged enterprise AI agent designed to support the diverse operational needs of enterprises.” [small and medium-sized enterprises] all over the world. ”
“Our vision is to democratize enterprise-grade AI,” said Kuo Zhang, President of Alibaba.com and Vice President of Alibaba International. “We want all entrepreneurs, no matter the size of their team, to have access to an intelligent workforce that operates at the scale of large enterprises. Small and medium-sized businesses will find Accio Work particularly useful.”
Alibaba noted that for non-technical entrepreneurs, building a custom AI workforce typically means navigating complex engineering and risky deployments. Accio Work is “designed to remove these barriers with pre-configured teams of agents designed for the entire business life cycle, from initial market analysis, design, and sourcing to long-term store optimization and inventory monitoring.…The secret lies in dynamic orchestration: Upon receiving a goal, the system instantly assembles “squads” of cross-functional specialized agents (analysts, creators, logistics experts) to work in parallel. ”
Our agent team not only handles long-term operations, but also provides strategic insights and recommendations. This enables small businesses and individual founders to run end-to-end global commerce workflows with enterprise-grade precision.
Accio Work also enables entrepreneurs to run their online businesses and brick-and-mortar stores with “a new level of automation specifically designed to alleviate the significant operational burdens faced by small and medium-sized businesses,” the company said. “Users can deploy a fleet of customizable AI agents to handle critical tasks such as managing real-time VAT declarations, tax refunds and customs documentation across 100+ markets, executing requests for quotation, conducting multi-level negotiations with suppliers to ensure the best terms, driving marketing automation and overseeing logistics through tools like Telegram and WhatsApp.”
Additionally, Accio Work allows users to encapsulate their unique processes into reusable “skills” to standardize, share, and even monetize their expertise. Unlike models that rely on general knowledge, which can be inaccurate, Accio Work draws directly from real-time consumer trends and actual business transaction records across Alibaba’s e-commerce platforms, the company said.
Recognizing the importance of delegating critical tasks to AI, Accio Work takes a security-first approach featuring a sandbox environment and granular permission management. High-stakes actions involving finances or file access require explicit user approval, ensuring that the AI operates strictly within defined boundaries. This system respects data sovereignty and users can choose not to store their data on our servers. The company says the core functionality is free and comes with free token allocation. Usage above the limit is charged per token and there is no monthly subscription fee.
