The Ajman government used agent AI to renew trade permits, a first for the UAE.
The achievement has been hailed as a significant step forward in the country’s efforts to leverage advanced technology to increase efficiency and improve customer service standards.
Ajman authorities described the process as an example of a “proactive, headless government service model” in which transactions are fully automated.
An AI agent is an autonomous model of AI that can make decisions and achieve specific goals with limited supervision.
Digital Ajman Authority has developed a state-of-the-art system to identify customer needs, plan service journeys, request approvals, and coordinate procedures across relevant departments.
How does it work?
The first phase of the AI-powered strategy focuses on trade license renewals through the Ajman Economic Development Authority.
Customers are automatically notified before their license expires and guided by the integrated AjmanOne government app’s intelligent assistant to complete the renewal process.
The service will also be integrated with Ajman Municipality and Planning Department if trade license renewal is dependent on a valid commercial lease.
If a lease renewal is required, the customer will be guided through the process before the trading license renewal automatically continues.

Crown Price said its high-tech blueprint for the future is designed with people in mind.
“The launch of the first proactive headless government service powered by Agentic AI is a practical step building on the Ajman Artificial Intelligence Program and reflects a people-first approach.
“We develop AI models that serve society, improve decision-making, enhance customer experience and support government integration within the framework of governance, trust, accountability and data protection,” he added.
AI action plan
In April, the UAE Cabinet announced an ambitious plan to have half of all government services provided by AI agents within two years.
Under this strategy, the UAE plans to train 80,000 workers, from ministers to junior staff, on how to use AI agents.
This training program is developed in partnership with leading universities and global technology companies.
It focuses on improving AI capabilities in five categories covering leadership, technical skills, specialist roles, general workforce, and additional support for trainers.
A purpose-built digital platform powered by Agentic AI tools has been developed to support federal employees through personalized learning pathways tailored to their role and skill level.
