A highly sensitive incident involving alleged misuse of technology and disrespect for religious beliefs has surfaced on social media in Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh state. A Facebook page run by a Christian group titled “From Heaven to Earth” has allegedly uploaded an offensive and controversial video featuring Hindu deities, sparking widespread outrage among Hindu groups.
The videos and images created using artificial intelligence (AI) technology allegedly depict Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu calling Jesus Christ their father. Moreover, one video depicts Jesus preaching to Lord Ram, while another video depicts Lord Hanuman describing Jesus Christ as the most powerful.
Several such videos have reportedly been published on Facebook pages, allegedly trying to portray Jesus Christ as superior to Hindu gods. Following mounting protests over the issue, the Civil Lines police station registered an FIR against unidentified persons and initiated an investigation. Members of the Bajrang Dal, Ram Bhakt Sena and Sangh Samaj termed it an attack on religious sentiments and demanded strict action against those responsible.
Bajrang Dal demands immediate action
Bajrang Dal president Ravi Wadhwani gave the strongest reaction on the matter. He asserted that AI technology is being misused on social media to insult Hindu gods, which is unacceptable under any circumstances. He demanded immediate removal of the disputed content from all social media platforms and called for strict legal action against the Facebook page administrator and all those involved in creating, uploading and distributing the content under the provisions on disturbing communal harmony and hurting religious sentiments. Wadhwani said if such incidents are not properly addressed, the misuse of social media to spread social discord may increase in the future. He called on the government to take swift action.
Ram Bhakt Sena and Hindu organizations stage protests
After the controversy, activists of Ram Bhakt Sena and several other Hindu organizations reached the Civil Lines police station. They have submitted a memorandum to the police demanding registration of an FIR against the operators of the Facebook page and demanding an impartial investigation. During the protest, activists raised slogans and said that interference with the religious beliefs of any religion will not be tolerated.
The groups unanimously said that viral videos can not only hurt religious sentiments but also cause chaos and communal tension in society. They called for a comprehensive cyber and technical investigation into the entire matter.
Sant Samaj issues a warning
Dr Swami Rajeshwaranand, president of Raipur’s Sureshwar Mahadev Peeth, also said the issue was serious. He said if anyone deliberately creates and distributes such videos with the intention of inciting religious sentiments or causing social unrest, strict legal action should be taken against them. He warned that such acts were not acceptable to society and called on the administration to ensure exemplary behavior against those found responsible.
Police action: FIR registered, investigation initiated by cyber cell
Following a complaint from a Hindu organization, Raipur’s Civil Lines police station registered an FIR against unidentified persons. Station official Yaman Debangan said police were investigating the viral video and the associated Facebook page, and efforts were underway to identify the person running it. The Cyber Cell is conducting a technical investigation to determine who created the video, from which IP address it was uploaded and what the original source is.
Responsibility will be determined after investigation.
The entire matter is currently under investigation by the police and the Cyber Investigation Department. So far, neither the Facebook page nor its operator has issued an official response. Only after the investigation is completed will it be known who made the video, what their intentions were and whether the content in question falls within the scope of offenses of hurting religious sentiments or inciting enmity under Indian law. Meanwhile, Hindu organizations said they will continue to pursue the issue and protest until strict action is taken against those responsible.
