Over the last few years, the world news section of the app has hit a creative roadblock. After the first appearance of highly innovative apps such as Flipboard and Pulse, news apps have evolved into official news publications and channels, collections of apps on sites, apps like Shorts that deliver news in compressed versions, or Basically a skin that sits on top of an RSS feed.
Artifact: Clean interface with some personalization options
Artifact was like a breath of fresh air in this scenario. Download the app, select the areas you want to follow, and get news from the sources of your choice. The interface was clean and the ads weren’t too painful. There was a reader mode to further clean things up.For example, I used to read a lot of book reviews and soccer reports.[For You]Sections now display books and soccer-related information. The app also provided information about my reading habits and told me what kind of stories I was reading.
You can also leave comments on stories within the app and view comments made by other users. The interface was clean on the main screens (clicking it opens the website version in the app) and not overwhelming like Flipboard. Neither was subject to the news deluge that Google and Microsoft’s news services tend to deliver, with lots of news at once. Things always seemed to be tailored to your needs.Artifact is a nice, clean news app with some really cool features and a touch of social media that users will love It got better the more I used it because I figured out what I didn’t like or what I didn’t like and fine-tuned what I saw accordingly.
Artifact: Best in AI summary!
But what takes it to the next level and pushes it to the top of our list of favorite news apps is the new AI-driven[要約]Optional. On the surface, this looks very mundane.[要約]Click the option (we’ll show you how later in this article) and the app will default to abbreviating the article with a few bullet points.
I find it useful, but not revolutionary. What makes this special is the fact that it can be summarized in a variety of formats rather than the usual format.[概要]Go to box options to see other options. As of this writing, you have the following options to choose from: “Explain Like I’m Five”, “Emoji” and “Poem”. Generation Z apart from the default “normal”-ish summary option. We’ve picked a selection for each wrap-up from Vox’s story “What is Bluesky and why it’s trending on Twitter.” The results were very impressive. The verse option actually rhymes, and I loved the emoji usage in the emoji version! To be fair, the other tally options don’t always work. Sometimes when I tried different aggregation options they literally returned nothing, but most of the time they work.
And when they work, they add a whole new dimension to your news. Concise, smart, and a lot of fun. I don’t know when I last used the f word (meaning “fun”) in a news app. Most of the time it made me want to read more of the abstract. Because they were all so wonderfully different. And, of course, most of the time it’s like, “Okay, let’s see what emojis are used!” (with a warning that the abstract was written by an AI and may contain mistakes).
As a result, we read that summary a few times, so we actually had a pretty good idea of the story. Not bells and whistles, but innovative features that really add value.
This is why I think everyone should download a copy of Artifact. It’s free, available for both iOS and Android, and not a cluttered read. How to view AI summaries in Artifact
For iOS:
- Open the app and open a story.
- In the upper right corner, you will see an option titled “Aa”. Tap it.
- The first option here is summary. Tap it.
- A summary appears in the box.
- Three dots appear in the upper right corner of the overview box. Tap these.
- You’ll see options for different types of overviews that your app can provide. Please choose the one you want.
- Tap Aa,[要約]to hide the summary.
For Android:
- Same initial routine. Open the app and open a story.
- In the top right corner of your story you will see a gear similar to the one used for settings. Tap it.
- Tapping the wheel reveals a series of options, the last of which is[要約]is. Tap it.
- This will[概要]A box will open.
- To see more overview options,[概要]Tap the three button icon in the upper right corner of the box and tap the desired option.
- Interestingly, the Android version of the app has an option to copy the synopsis, but the iOS version does not at the time of writing.
- Tap the gear icon,[要約]to select[要約]Hide the box.
