For those interested in learning about artificial insemination (AI) in sheep and goats, the University of Wyoming Extension will offer educational programs in Campbell and Fremont counties in July, followed by breeding days in August.
Classroom sessions will be held Friday, July 14, from 1-4 p.m. at the Campbell and Fremont County Extension Offices. UW personnel and local experts discuss nutrition, breeding selection, AI protocols, and pregnancy testing.
“It’s the basics of how to select females, how you look at genetics, and what that process looks like,” explains Campbell County 4-H educator Kim Frye. “Come learn and improve your flock.”

No payment is required if you only attend the classroom session. The cost for someone interested in breeding the animals is $75 per animal for him, excluding semen. Payment must be submitted on July 14th to participate in the August Breeding Day.
Registered AI technicians will be available at breeding days in Fremont and Campbell counties in August. Participants will be notified once dates and locations have been determined, and lamb births and jokes are scheduled to occur after January 1st.
The AI Days program is funded by the John P. Elbogen Foundation and organized by UW Extension educators Kim Fry and Chance Marshall.
