President Murmu highlighted AI as a huge opportunity for India and highlighted its role in GDP, employment and inclusive growth.
Speaking at a program organized by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, he said AI is emerging as a key growth driver for the Indian economy and will contribute significantly to the country's GDP, employment and productivity in the coming decades.
The President said AI should be used to reduce social, economic and technological barriers.
She pointed out that skills such as data science, AI engineering and data analysis will play an influential role in developing the country's AI talent pool.
“Artificial intelligence is emerging as a growth engine for the Indian economy. India is rapidly progressing towards becoming the world's third largest economy,” he said.
Murmu added that in the coming decades, AI will play an important role in contributing to the country's GDP, job creation and overall productivity.
She said the government is working with industrial partners and academia to ensure that India not only embraces technology but also shapes a responsible future through it.
The President encouraged the people to work towards the goal of Vikshit Bharat through the New Education Policy and commit to transforming India into a knowledge superpower, a technology-driven, inclusive and prosperous country.
She emphasized that the government is promoting the use of artificial intelligence in schools to equip children with technological leadership.
The President said that through AI labs and AI models, innovative thinking and future-ready skills are being inculcated in children.
She said that the Skill the Nation Challenge, launched on this occasion, aims to foster AI learning and innovation at scale.
These efforts will prove critical in uplifting and empowering India's hundreds of thousands of learners and preparing a future-ready workforce, the President said.
She observed that AI is giving new directions to economies and societies around the world.
She said that for young Indians, AI is not just a technology, but a huge opportunity to bring about positive change.
The president argued that AI should be used to reduce social, economic, and technological barriers. It is important to ensure that the benefits reach all segments of society, especially the disadvantaged, she said in her speech.
He highlighted that the government is strengthening digital public infrastructure and implementing the India AI Mission to establish India as a global AI leader.
President Murmu was speaking while participating in SOAR, a special program for building AI-ready skills, an initiative of the Skill India Mission.
She launched the #SkillTheNation Challenge, a national awareness campaign aimed at awarding artificial intelligence (AI) certificates to learners, including students and parliamentarians, and encouraging more young people to participate in future-ready upskilling programs.
The President also virtually inaugurated the IGNOU Regional Center at Railanpur to serve as a key hub in northern Odisha for enhancing employability through skill-based programs and training support.
Artificial intelligence is transforming the nature of work and skill requirements across sectors.
