The Verge reports that Amazon has removed an AI-generated compilation video of the popular TV show “Fallout” after viewers pointed out several factual errors. The summary was part of an experimental feature announced in November for Prime Video users in the US. This tool is designed to help viewers understand the major plot points of a particular Prime Video original show. Amazon says the AI-powered recap uses narration, dialogue, and music to create short summaries of key events.The company then said the compilation would only be available on “select English-language Prime original series in the United States.” “Video Summarization uses AI to summarize a show’s most pertinent plot points in theatrical-quality video that includes narration, dialogue, and music.”As fans eagerly await the release of the next Fallout series on December 17th, they highlight a mistake in the AI summary. A Reddit post shared by a Prime user showed a clip of a ghoul, one of the show's central characters, played by actor Walton Goggins, being incorrectly described as a “1950s flashback” by an AI voiceover.Despite the clip's retro aesthetic, fans claim it actually depicts a scene from 2077. Some suggested that the recap incorrectly summarized scenes between Ghoul and main character Lucy MacLaine, played by Ella Purnell, changing their dynamic in a way that confused new viewers.
It's not the first time
Interestingly, AI tools are subject to scanners that generate errors when creating content summaries. Earlier this year, Apple suspended its AI feature that summarizes notifications after repeated errors, including one false alarm related to a criminal case. Google's AI Overview feature has also come under fire for inaccurate responses.
