We’re new to the “AI music video generator” Sondo AI, but it seems like a lot of people aren’t. The startup companies claim that they have already surpassed 10 million users worldwide.
There’s another indicator of context in that announcement. That said, the company’s community has “generated more than 15 million music videos on its platform in the past year.” That’s an average of 1.5 videos per user.
What is Songdo? It’s aimed at both brands and individual creators, and promises to let you upload your track, add a reference image and (optional) a description of the story you want your video to tell, and generate a music video with the click of a button.
The business model is subscription, with tiered pricing of $9.99 per week, $29.99 per month, and $59.99 per year. Each includes a certain number of credits to spend on generating: 800 per week, 3,200 per month, and 8,000 per year, respectively.
I tried it out this morning and the cost to produce one video was 1,834 credits. That equates to just over two weeks of credit in the bottom two tiers.
There is no information on Sondo AI’s website about what its model was trained on. Given the company’s focus on music videos, it’s an issue it may need to prepare for cooperation from rights holders as the service grows.
