After the Amritsar Police Commission, the Cybercrime division of the Maharashtra Police has now registered a lawsuit against an unknown person who has hurt Sikh feelings through a morphed video of the Golden Temple. This is the second FIR of the last five days.
This was notified by Saab Singh of Damdami Taksal Jasa Bindra (Meta) in a statement released here on Saturday.
The lawsuit has been registered in a complaint from Ghaswak Singh, a resident of Mumbai. Jaspal Singh Sidhu, a Sikh activist in Maharashtra and Charandeep Singh, a member of the Minority Committee, also met with cybercrime officials in Maharashtra in this connection.
“The lawsuit under Section 299 of BNS, added to section 67 of the IT Act, has been registered by the Maharashtra Police Cybercrime Cell for hurting Sikh feelings,” said Saab Singh. He said police officials are guaranteed to conduct an investigation, and those who upload and generate videos via AI will be identified and arrested soon.
The Golden Temple video, crumbling in a flood that has been caused by artificial intelligence, has recently become a virus on social media, which has hurt feelings in the Sikh community.
Previously, watching the video seriously, the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) filed a complaint with police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, leading to the registration of the city police MIR.
It was held by Bugwant Shindangela, general manager of Golden Temple. The video has been shared and viewed by people thousands of times, pointing out that it caused resentment among Sikhs. He called the incident unfortunate, but added that AI technology had been repeatedly misused to tamper with photographs of Sikh gurus.
Jaspal Singh Sidhu, president of the Maharashtra Sikh Samaj Coordination Committee, said such cases of AI-generated photographs and digital materials caused concern in the community. He urged the federal government to take urgent measures to ensure that such offensive material is shared on social media.
