According to a report by Indeed, demand for AI/ML engineers and BPO executives has skyrocketed in 2022. See the most in-demand jobs and industry trends.
Demand for these roles has surged 433%, reflecting the increasing reliance on artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques across sectors, according to the company.
This was followed by a 314 percent increase in demand for business process outsourcing (BPO) executives, highlighting the continued expansion of the outsourcing and customer service industries, the Indeed report said.
Despite the two roles requiring very different skills, they are driving significant employment growth at both ends of the skills spectrum, the report says.
The report is based on demand data from January 2022 to June 2024 across various occupations and industries on job-seeking platform Indeed.
Furthermore, the report states that while AI/ML engineers represent a highly specialised technical role, BPO executives indicate strong demand for more generalised, customer-focused roles.
Meanwhile, the report found that receptionists, travel consultants and electricians also featured prominently on the list, demonstrating the diversity of roles in demand.
Job postings for receptionists increased by 310 percent, highlighting the need for effective front office management and customer care, while job postings for travel consultants increased by 285 percent, suggesting that the travel and tourism sector is seeing a revival as people regain confidence in travelling post-pandemic, the report said.
It added that the trend was driven by a combination of increased leisure travel and the resumption of business travel, and could reflect a broader recovery in the tourism sector.
At a sector level, the sanitation and construction industries also saw the fastest growth, with job vacancies increasing by 160 percent and 121 percent respectively, the report found.
Demand for electricians is high, with job postings up 258 percent, signaling a surge in infrastructure projects and real estate developments requiring skilled tradespeople, it said.
The company also said it is seeing significant job growth in other sectors, such as education and medical research, reflecting growing demand for healthcare and education services.
“These trends provide valuable insights for both job seekers and employers, demonstrating that both tech and service-oriented roles are essential in the evolving employment landscape,” said Sashi Kumar, head of sales, Indeed India.
