BENGALURU: New AI jobs require new skills and on-the-job learning. Nathalie Scardino, chief people officer at Salesforce, said the company is hiring more for roles like prompt engineers, AI trainers and ethical AI architects. “AI is driving job creation. While traditional roles will continue to evolve, AI is creating countless new, high-paying, high-demand roles across industries, including Salesforce. We are now hiring for roles that didn't exist until last year. For example, our ethical AI architects are actually working with product teams to think objectively about how bias might manifest within AI,” she said. Scardino highlighted that the chief AI officer is the newest C-level position responsible for developing the organization's overall AI strategy. For example, prompt engineers create prompts for AI tools like GPT products and chatbots to get the most accurate and desired results. AI trainers use extensive datasets to train chatbots to respond to user inputs in a human-like way.Meanwhile, AI architects are responsible for developing applications that comply with responsible use of AI and operate within a governance framework. A recent IDC white paper sponsored by Salesforce predicts a surge in hiring for data architects, AI ethicists, and AI solution architects over the next 12 months. The report also predicts that 11.6 million new jobs will be created in the Salesforce ecosystem alone over the next six years. Salesforce has revamped its recruiting process to focus on skills and core competencies. “We match potential candidates to roles based on leads we get through recruiting events, our career website, social channels, etc., whether they have formally applied or not. With over 2 million applicants per year, it helps us make sure we don't miss out on great talent. We use AI and automation to surface the right talent for the right job based on the applicant's skills,” Scardino explained. The company also created a talent marketplace that uses AI to map opportunities to the right employees at the right time. “They are proactively providing opportunities at a critical time when employees are on the brink of leaving,” she added. Salesforce.com currently employs 11,000 people across Hyderabad, Bangalore, Mumbai, Gurugram, Pune and Jaipur in India. The company has not only quadrupled its workforce in the past three years, but also added 1,000 employees in just four months. During a recent visit to India, Scardino said he interacted with engineering and product teams and discussed the 80-20 rule. “We think 20% of the time is really about innovation, speed, bringing new ideas to the table, being able to innovate on the platform over time and create new applications. And learning, a culture of continuous learning, which I think is really important to stay agile as market trends and conditions change.” Asked about the disruption that AI tools could cause in the labor market, Scardino said he is observing a net increase in new roles. “And from an expansion standpoint, leaders across every industry, every function are looking at how AI can impact the flow of work.”
