  • Google search isn’t the only thing people are using these days. Artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Gemini have become popular search engines. AI has a different way of optimizing its online presence than Google. AI search continues to evolve;

  • AI search continues to evolve, and if you don’t want to be left behind, there are four signals your business needs to get right to stay at the top of search results pages.

A client recently came to me with a problem, and it was no small thing.

On paper, their business was thriving. Their customers were loyal. The offer was sophisticated and the team effort was exceptional. But when people searched for their businesses online, they were nowhere to be found, especially within new AI tools.

This client didn’t need another general marketing checklist. They needed to see the real strategy. These needed to appear where people were actually searching today, not where they searched 10 years ago.

Today, people don’t just type a business name into Google. They’re asking ChatGPT. They have their eyes on Gemini. They consult Perplexity. They rely on AI to decide who to trust, where to go, and which experts are worth their business.

So if your company is built solely for old-fashioned search, you’re playing yesterday’s game.

I see this every day in all my businesses. AI search continues to evolve, and I don’t want to be left behind. More importantly, I refuse to leave my clients behind.

Search is no longer just a ranking, it’s your reputation

For a long time, search felt pretty predictable.

You chose your keywords wisely. Placed throughout the site. I pursued some backlinks. But that version of the search is no longer the whole picture.

The big question today is not just, “Where do I rank?” A better question is, “Do the people who search the internet in new ways trust my business enough to recommend it?”

It’s a completely different game. Now your business has to be more than just found. Must be worth recommending.

I think about this as follows. Search in the old days was about landing on a list. Modern AI search is all about getting referrals.

Different search engines require different things.

One of the most common mistakes owners make is assuming that all search platforms work the same way. it’s not. Google, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, and others all find, read, and share information in their own ways. They overlap, but they are not exactly the same.
