AI helpers can coach people into careers and help them get home

AI News

  • British people can have their own AI agents to help them deal with everything from life managers to choosing a career to get personalized guidance to find a job.
  • The UK government will move forward with the world's first plan to use AI agents for national government services in 2027 calling for frontier AI companies to help test their technologies.
  • Before the Prime Minister announces tomorrow the set of AI's first set of AI model projects, it is set to show that AI will help transform public services, facilitate people's lives, and provide more effective plans for change.

AI agents can quickly take on the boring life manager by dealing with public services on your behalf, from filling out the form to completing and booking applications, as the UK government plans a trial to save people time and modernize the state.

Agent AI is unique in that it can ensure that you can complete basic administrative tasks for people by putting in prompts and watching it do the work for them. Private companies AI agents acting on behalf of people can be used to book flights, shop for the best deals online, or book restaurants and activities for holiday itineraries.

On Monday, the government will invite specialist companies to work with this type of cutting-edge AI to work with in-house Whitehall experts to test the technology together. This includes investigating whether agent AI can help young people take the next step in education, find the best apprentice for their situation, and provide custom career guidance, etc.

In the first example, the tool can be tried to help people with employment and skills, but if successful, the government experiments to see if agent AI can help other life milestones. For example, if you move to a home, government-built AI agents can help you update your digital driver's license address. You can register for the new GP, register for the correct constituency, vote, etc.

Taking the new experimental approach recommended in the AI Opportunity Action Plan, technology development will follow a “test and learning” approach that can be deployed nationwide from late 2027.

British technology secretary Peter Kyle said:

Using the power of emerging AI technology, we can completely rethink and reconstruct how public services can help people through critical moments of life. We were able to make the most of Agent AI to provide a level of service to citizens who were previously unimaginable. This helps people find better career opportunities and avoid wasting time on government managers.

We ask the world's brightest AI developers to work together with our own incredible AI teams to test how valuable the latest technology is in supporting people in their daily lives. Each step only progresses when the technology can be used in a safe and reliable way, but if it works, we can become the first country in the world to use large AI agents.

This technology is completely optional to use, so you can save headache time by dealing with it on behalf of dozens of different agencies and government officials at once.

To provide this, the government is today sharing its expertise with Frontier AI Labs and asking AI experts to build prototypes of technology over six to ten months. Along with government AI experts, the hybrid team proves that this new technology is possible when applying it to public services, but the UK government will maintain ownership of its products in the future.

The project will be the first “National AI Bid” to be issued following the AI Opportunity Action Plan, a new way to build cutting-edge AI solutions to improve public services across the country.

Following the AI Opportunity Action Plan's recommended “scan, pilot, scale” approach, we mark the beginning of the “pilot” phase, and the government will work with major AI labs to see if the available technologies are ready to ensure that this ambition is delivered.

This technology is built in small and repetitive stages. This means that it is consistently evaluated and rigorously tested to ensure it is reliable and accurate enough for people across the country to use when ready.

The completed “scan” phase included user research to test where agent AI could be most useful, as well as early prototyping and investigation of data already available to allow for further development.

Throughout, the project is evaluated before proceeding to the next stage. If successful at each stage, Agent AI Solutions could potentially be deployed nationwide from the end of 2027.

It's before the Prime Minister announces the wider series of AI models tomorrow. He sets up several ways in which AI is used throughout the public sector to speed up services, save money and improve outcomes for citizens.

This list includes the Extract tool. The tool standardizes your data faster by converting handwritten planning documents and maps from decades ago into data in minutes. Enhance a new type of planning software to reduce the estimated time of 250,000 spent planning each year to manually check these documents.
