WESTPORT, CT – Wisemen of Westport/Weston welcomes Emmy Award-winning journalist David Pogue to the Westport Library on Monday, May 22 at 7:00 p.m. for a presentation. artificial intelligence becomes a reality.
The year 2023 will go down in human history as the year when AI suddenly exploded in usefulness, and as a terrifying year. One app can turn what you type into art in any style. (For example, “Renoir-esque skateboard bananas in Times Square.”) Another app will write for you on any topic, whatever you ask of it. letter. lyrics. Research paper. recipe. therapy session. poetry. essay. overview. software code. Educators call this “the end of teaching writing skills.” Other apps may create music, mimic someone’s voice perfectly, or even generate a complete video scene from your input description.
Some experts are terrified. These tools will erase millions of jobs, erase writing and other creative skills from humanity, and seem poised to unleash disinformation, violence, and porn on an unprecedented scale. Optimists argue that these tools will bring creative expression to millions of people who have good ideas but lack the skills to bring them to life.
In this entertaining and unforgettable talk, Pogue will demonstrate the cutting edge of AI creativity and prepare you for the years to come. After his talk, he will also answer questions from the audience.
