New data from Jellyfish, a software engineering management service, reveals a rapid rise in the way businesses adopt tools that take action independently in the coding process beyond supporting AI.
Between December 2024 and May 2025, Jellyfish analyzed data from over 400 companies and measured the adoption of agent AI in software coding. This is a technology that not only proposes code, but also performs tasks such as reviewing, authoring, and submitting code.
At the beginning of 2025, more than half of companies used Agent AI for these tasks. By May, that figure had jumped to 82%, according to jellyfish data.

AI-powered code reviews have increased further from 39% in January to 76% in May. Popular tools for this task include Github Copilot Reviewer, Cursor Buggot, and Coderabbit. According to jellyfish data, Up and Commer is graphite and greptile.

There's still a long way to go before AI takes over the coding of the software. This can be seen in the third dataset of the same period. Less than 8% of companies analyzed by Jellyfish are fully steering agent coding workflows. This is not only reviewed by AI, but actually writing and sending it. This is up from under 2% in January, but adoptions are still considerably lower.
