MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Social media timelines are filled with cartoon-like images littered with watches, trophies, coffee mugs, notepads and flowers.
ChatGPT Caricature Challenge is easy. Users enter the prompt “Create a portrait of me and my work based on everything you know about me,” add any details they want the AI to consider, and press generate.
From kitchen sets to television sets, people enjoy it. While most people seem impressed by the sharpness and accuracy of the caricature, some can’t help but point out the AI’s quirks, such as a married man whose ring mysteriously disappeared from his hand.
This trend is part of a broader wave of AI-generated personalized content sweeping social platforms. Similar challenges have asked AI to imagine users as cartoon characters, Renaissance paintings, and even fantasy heroes. This trend is made possible thanks to the image generation technology built into tools like ChatGPT.
And speaking of ChatGPT, it’s probably no coincidence that the site went down in the midst of all this activity.
On Tuesday, ChatGPT temporarily went offline for thousands of users across the United States. Reports spiked around 2:20 p.m., peaking at more than 13,000, according to Downdetector.
OpenAI confirmed the issue on its status page and said it had applied “necessary mitigations.”
It’s still unclear whether the outage was actually caused by a flood of requests for caricatures, but it certainly didn’t stop the trend of taking over feeds.
