Evolve is a mental health app designed specifically for the LGBTQIA+ community. We offer sessions with psychologists, life coaches and wellness experts to help users struggling with mental health issues. Launched in 2017, Evolve is currently a “Best App for Personal Growth 2021” award by Google Play.
Evolve founder Anshul Kamith told Tech Today about his work. Talking about the inspiration that prompted Kamas and his co-founder Rohan Arora to create the app specifically for the LGBTQIA+ community, he said: However, in 2021, seeing early signs of traction, we decided to pivot to an LGBTQ+ first app. The LGBTQ+ community is one of the fastest growing user bases in the world, and studies show members of the community are nearly 4 more likely to experience severe mental illness compared to the general population. shown to be twice as high. ”

Kamas said he invested heavily in research on the efforts he made to make the app more reliable. He said: “We are very focused on research and building evidence-based interventions. A PhD in clinical psychology guides our research and content. We have signed a research project with BITS Pilani and are part of the global mental health research alliance – the most authentic solution for the community.”
What makes Evolve different from other mental health apps on the market? “Unlike most other apps that primarily focus on virtual content, Evolve also has a vibrant community where users can discuss and share experiences to normalize stressors. We recently launched a live support group with a safe space for users to interact with others around the world and work on specific issues related to mental health.”
Evolve worked with Apple Accelerator in Bangalore to make the app more intuitive and engaging. He said, “The Apple team has been very supportive of our mission and made sure we had the guidance to build a world-class app from India. He has also been in regular communication with the Apple team to understand the latest features that iOS devices support (widgets, Siri integration, etc.) and this is a great way for iPhone users. It helps us streamline our roadmap for delivering quality experiences.”
The Evolve app is rated 4.9 stars on the App Store. Kamas also spoke about his belief in the app’s success. “We now have over 400,000 users. A big part of our tenet is to always build authentic products that resonate with our users. We have grown five times in a year since we decided to focus on building for the LGBTQ+ community,” he said.
Artificial intelligence is the hottest topic in the tech industry right now. Kamas is also leveraging his AI in his Mental Health app. He said how he integrated the technology into the app. “When it comes to mental health, there is a huge gap between the supply and demand of qualified mental health professionals. We see it as an opportunity to fill this gap for those who cannot afford to consult with us.”
He added, “So far, we have used some basic AI to make certain content on the app more interactive. We have a virtual therapy module designed to simulate how a therapist would give you space if you were facing a You can learn concepts, keep a diary, etc. Each user’s experience is different, so the underlying AI can help us better coordinate these modules and interactions.”
Kamas also spoke about the uncertain future of AI generation tools like ChatGPT. “We are proceeding cautiously when it comes to AI generation tools that are currently being talked about. While it’s great for sensible apps and tasks, we’re concerned that it may contain harmful or homophobic content that is less likely to offend users.”
