A global AI boom is underway, with expectations for massive value creation and productivity gains, and the app industry is firmly at the center of the momentum.
According to the AI App Report, revenue from these apps will reach $18.5 billion in 2025, an increase of 180% year over year. This is an impressive growth rate, with an average annual growth rate of 31.1 percent from 2026 to 2030, and is predicted to continue to grow at a high pace.

Chatbots account for the majority of this revenue, with ChatGPT being a behemoth in the industry, contributing 66% of total revenue in 2025. ChatGPT has millions of users subscribed to its $20/month Plus plan, which gives you access to the latest models and priority bandwidth.
According to OpenAI, ChatGPT has nearly 1 billion users, many of whom access the chatbot on mobile. In the second half of 2025, the total number of users exceeded 1.1 billion, with 374 million users added in that period alone.
In terms of installations, generated AI apps exceeded 3 billion in the second half of 2025, an increase of 34% compared to the first half.
It’s clear that much of the revenue growth from AI will be seen on the enterprise side of the market. Millions of companies are pivoting around AI and incorporating GPT, Claude, and other AI models into their systems. They pay much more per person than mobile consumers. However, the AI app market still has several years of strong growth ahead as these apps mature and new apps are launched that provide generative tools for creating videos, music, and games.
